Abstract

|
|
Pernicious anemia is an etiologic subcategory of megaloblastic anemia caused by a failure of the gastric mucosa to secrete intrinsic factor. In addition to the defective DNA synthesis common to all megaloblastic anemias, there is a defect of
inabilitv
to synthesize myelin that is present only in vitamin B12 deficiency.
We report a case of pernicious anemia associated with neurologic dysfunctions which was diagnosed by bone marrow study, serum level of vitamin B12, and gastrofiberscopy with biopsy.
